As mentioned last week in our post for tumblr users, we’re blogging tips on setting up our new check-in and sticker widgets to help those of you who are new to adding widgets to your blogs.

Today we’re sharing steps on setting up a widget on your self-hosted WordPress.org blog. Please note, if you have a WordPress.com blog that is hosted by WordPress, you unfortunately won’t be able to add these widgets. (More info on that here.)

Adding a check-in or sticker widget to your WordPress.org blog:
  1. 1. While logged into GetGlue, click “Settings” under the gear icon in the nav bar, then select “Widgets.” (Or click here: getglue.com/settings/widgets)
  2. 2. Choose “Grab Code” for the widget you want on your blog.
  3. 3. Copy the code that appears.
  4. 4. Go to your WordPress Dashboard.
  5. 5. Click on ‘Appearance’ on the left, and then click on ‘Widgets’ to edit your blog’s widgets.
  6. 6. Create a new ‘Text’ widget.
  7. 7. Paste the code that you copied from GetGlue into your new widget.
  8. 8. Click “save,” and you are done!
In addition, we have a plugin for WordPress.org created by one of our users that we’d like to share. (Thanks allanneagle!) You can see it on his blog here and download it here. Note: Just like our GetGlue widgets, this plugin is also only for WordPress.org blogs.

If you have a already widget set up, remember to share your blog link with us so that we can feature it in a future tweet!

Back in October we launched a pair of widgets to display your recent GetGlue check-ins and stickers right on your blog or website. They automatically update with your latest activity and are a cool way to showcase the entertainment that you love. If you already have a blog that’s using a GetGlue widget, go ahead and post a link in the comments. We’d love to check it out, and may even feature it in an upcoming tweet!

Since these widgets are looking so great on some of your blogs out there, we’re posting a series of easy guides to help the rest of you take the plunge into editing the appearance of your blog. This week we’ll start with tips specific to Tumblr users, and next week we’ll go over WordPress.org.

Adding a check-in or sticker widget to your Tumblog:

  1. 1. While logged into GetGlue, click “Settings” under the gear icon in the nav bar, then select “Widgets” (or click here: getglue.com/settings/widgets).
  2. 2. Choose “Grab Code” for the widget you want on your Tumblog.
  3. 3. Copy the code that appears.
  4. 4. Visit tumblr.com and make sure you are logged-in.
  5. 5. Click on the “Preferences” gear icon.
  6. 6. Choose “Customize your blog” in the top right of the “Preferences” page.
  7. 7. In the customization panel that appears on the left click “Edit HTML.”
  8. 8. Paste the code that you copied for your widget where you want it to appear on your web page.*
  9. 9. Click “save” back up at the top, and you are done!
*HTML Tips:
-   If you want it in your sidebar, try searching (CTRL + F) in the HTML for the word “sidebar”
-   Paste the widget code before the final </div> of the sidebar section.
-   Click on preview before saving to see if you have it in the right spot.
